Lot 78:
Description
Richard Stone Reeves (American, 20th C) is a noteworthy artist who specialized in the equine, specifically thoroughbred race horses. This, signed, limited edition print. Nijinksy II depicts a Canadian bred, Irish trained champion thoroughbred, who made history in 1970 by becoming the first horse in 35 years to win the English Triple Crown. That feat has not been repeated since. An interesting bit of history about Nijinsky. He contracted ringworm, in August of 1969, and was placed on a diet of raw eggs and Irish Stout beer. He was later admitted to HAA (Horses Alcohol Anonymous). Well, that part I made up, but not the diet he was given to rid himself of ringworm.
