Lot 91:
Description
Established, 1905, in New York, by Frank Duffner, and Oliver Kimberly, the Duffner and Kimberly Company became one of the preminant manufacturers of portable electric table lamps, quickly becoming a competitor of Louis Comfort Tiffany. The business was short lived, closings its doors in 1911.
The "Adam" lamp, often referred to as the "Spiderweb, " consists of a gilt leaded shade, supported by a matching gilt bronze base, having four original chain pull operated Bryant sockets. The glass is superb, with a combination of elongated chipped ice bands running from the top of the shade to the ovoid mottled amber pieces, mottled and granite backed glass, providing a plethora of color.
The spiderweb design has purplish rootbeer colored glass, with amber colored glass below, and cupped with yellow granite backed glass. This lamp imbues elegance and sophistication. It will be a focal point in any home or office.
Dimensions: 28 in. high, 22 in. diameter (shade)
Weight: 25 LB
Condition report:
Very good - Excellent. No damaged or replaced glass. Leading maintains nearly all of its original gold gilding, as does the base.
